Weekend de Paques dans le Sussex et le Kent - Easter Weekend in Sussex and Kent

Nous avions prevu de partir decouvrir le Sussex et le Kent pour le weekend de Paques. Nous sommes donc partis pour Brighton sur la cote sud de l'Angleterre, a tout juste 2 heures de route. C'etait une tres belle journee! Le pavillon royal nous a beaucoup etonne (1ere photo)! Voyez http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brighton_Pavilion

We planned to visit Sussex and Kent over the Easter weekend. We set off for Brighton, at only a short ride from our house. It was a lovely day! We were really surprised by the Royal Pavilion!

 

 

Puis nous avons repris la route en direction de Eastbourne, en longeant la cote... et en passant a cote de tres belles falaises blanches, celles de Beachy Head (voyez http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beachy_Head). Nous avons passe la nuit dans une chambre d'hote charmante a Eastbourne et avons ete faire des ricoches le matin avant de repartir.

Then we went to Eastbourne on the coastal road, so we drove pass the beautiful cliffs of Beachy Head. We spent the night in a lovely B&B in Eastbourne and in the morning, we went on the sea side to make some rebounds before setting off.

 

Nous avons passe notre 2eme nuit pres de Ashford, dans une ferme au milieu de nul part! Les toits de nombreuses maisons etaient pointus dans cette region (Kent) et apres recherche, ca s'appelle des Oast houses, c'etait pour faire secher le malt qui servait a faire la biere locale! (voyez http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Touraillage  ou  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oast_house  pour les Anglophones!).

We spent our 2nd night on a farm in the middle of nowhere, close to Ashford! The roofs on many houses had a funny shape in this area so we looked for explanations and they are actually called Oast houses, used to be used to dry hops (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oast_house). 

Puis nous sommes alles visite le site de la fameuse bataille de Hastings, la ou le roi d'Angleterre Harold II a ete tue par les Francais (menes par Guillaume le Conquerant) en 1066 et qui marqua le debut de la conquete de l'Angleterre par les Francais (voyez http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bataille_d%27Hastings)... pas de commentaire pour le bien de notre paix familiale!!! C'etait tres interessant et impressionant et encore une fois, comme a Windsor, Oscar a ete bien attentif (pas jusqu'au bout quand meme!) a l'audioguide pour les enfants.

Then we continued with a visit of the battle of Hastings' site, where Harold II King of England was killed by the Duke William of Normandy in 1066, and which was the beginning of the French control of England (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Hastings) ... no comment please for the sake of the peace in our family!!! It was very interesting and impressive and once again, like at Windsor, Oscar was really concentrated on the kids audio-guide commentary (not till the end though!).

Et pour finir notre weekend en beaute (mais pas sous le beau temps malheureusement!), nous avons ete rejoindre Carine, Alban, Anthony et Hermione a Douvres, ou ils arrivaient pour une petite semaine de vacances anglaises! Le temps ne nous a pas laisse beaucoup profiter de la region mais ils ont quand meme pu voir le chateau de Guildford et puis passer de belles journees a Londres. Et Oscar etait ravi d'avoir des camarades de jeux!

And to close off our weekend, we went to Dover to meet up my friends Carine, Alban, with Anthony and Hermione, who were arriving for a week of British Holidays! The weather was really not great but we could see the Guildford castle and they could still enjoy London for 2 nice days. And Oscar was really pleased to have friends to play with!
