Des amis d'ici et d'ailleurs - Friends from here and there

Nous avons eu le plaisir d'avoir une nouvelle visite de Magali, qu'Oscar a tout de suite adopte. Elle nous a apporte le soleil et un ciel bleu comme on en voit rarement ici, alors, Magali: reviens quand tu veux!

We were pleased to have Magali at home for a few days, and Oscar immediately adopted her. She brought the sun and a wonderful blue sky (which is quite rare over here), so Magali, you can come back whenever you want!

Apres la visite d'une Auvergnate, ce sont avec des Japonais que nous avons passe la journee Samedi dernier: c'etait en effet le mariage de Manabu (un collegue de Mark, dont il etait le temoin) et de Masayo, a Eindhoven. Regardez bien la photo: Oscar est tout a gauche, "sagement" assis sur mes genoux (pour une fois), peut-etre un peu intimide.

After a French person from the Auvergne, we spent Saturday with some Japanese friends: it was Manabu's and Masayo's wedding in Eindhoven. Manabu is a colleague of Mark, who was his witness. Look carefully at the picture: Oscar is on the left, "quietly" sited on my knees (for once), maybe a bit intimidated.

Bapteme d'Oscar - Oscar's christening

Le Dimanche de Paques, nous avons donc baptise Oscar en l'eglise de Cottingham, pres du village de Grandma et Grandad. Nous etions un peu stresse a l'idee qu'Oscar devrait se tenir tranquille plus de 2 minutes - ce qui est quasiment impossible (et aussi moi, de savoir que j'allais devoir faire une lecture en anglais devant un auditoire 100% anglais!).
On Easter Sunday, we christened Oscar in Cottingham's church, close to Grandma and Grandad's. We were a bit stressed to think that Oscar would have to stay quiet for more than 2 minutes - which is barely possible (and I was also stressed myself because I was goind to read a text during the mess in a church full of English-speaking people!).

Nous voila prets - We are ready:





Et voici en images la ceremonie: l'eau (Oscar a essaye d'attraper le pot!), puis l'huile, puis le vetement blanc, puis le cierge (qui a captive Oscar) et enfin la photo avec sa Marraine, son Parrain et le Pere Corcorane. Tout s'est bien passe car l'eglise etait pleine d'enfants et ils pouvaient se promender et jouer comme ils voulaient. Il y avait aussi un groupe de musique que Oscar a adore.
Here below the pictures of the ceremony: the water (Oscar tried to grab the jar!), then the oil, then the white cloth, then the candle (which captured Oscar's attention) and finally the picture of Oscar with his Godmother, Godfather and Father Corcorane. Everything went fine especially because the church was full of kids and babies, who could walk and play as they liked. There was a band as well which Oscar loved.























Apres la ceremonie, nous sommes alles dejeuner au restaurant ou une belle table nous attendait et ou nous nous sommes tous regales de specialites anglaises (meme Papy a aime)!
After the ceremony, we went for lunch to a restaurant where a well-dressed table were waiting for us and where we enjoyed a very nice and typically British meal (even Papy liked it)!

De retour a la maison, nous avons savoure le traditionel "Christening cake" prepare et decore par Grandma (merci!). Oscar a joue avec sa toute nouvelle tire-lire et il a adore les bulles de savon!
Back home, we enjoyed the traditional christening cake prepared and decorated by Grandma (thanks!). Oscar played with his brand-new piggy bank and he loved when I blew bubbles!

Tout ca pour clore une tres belle et memorable journee!

2 semaines de vacances - 2 weeks holidays

2 semaines sans creche pour Oscar car Papy et Mamie sont venus pendant une semaine a la maison, ils se sont bien amuses ensemble et le temps a ete ensoleille (pour une fois!). Puis tout le monde a pris le ferry de Rotterdam a Hull pour aller passer une semaine de vacances chez Grandma et Grandad, juste avant le grand evenement: le Bapteme d'Oscar le Dimanche de Paques.

2 weeks holidays without going to the creche as Papy and Mamie came here for a week, where they had fun together also thanks to the nice weather (for once!). Then, we all took the ferryboat from Rotterdam to Hull to go on holidays for a week at Grandma and Grandad's, just before the big event: Oscar's christening on Easter Sunday.

Les vacances ont bien commence pour Oscar sur le bateau ou il a pu draguer sur la piste de danse et tenter sa chance sur les machines a sous!

The holidays started very well on the boat where Oscar could chat up on the dance floor and have a gamble!

Une fois arrive, il a revu beaucoup de monde et notamment Louis (avec qui il y a eu competition de jouets), G.G.J. (Great Grandma Jean pour les non-inities) et Grandma Tordoff.

Once arrived, Oscar saw lots of people from family and friends and especially Louis (and there was a bit of toy competition!), G.G.J. (Great Grandma Jean for the ones who don't know yet) and Grandma Tordoff.

Il a aussi fait beaucoup de decouvertes:

* la varicelle, qui l'a eu pendant toute la semaine (mais au moins, c'est fait!)

* les pubs et leurs traditions: Oscar a tout de suite compris comment trinquer!

Bref, nous avons tous passes une excellente semaine et ce ne sont pas Papy et Mamie qui diront le contraire: regardez-le decouvrir le traditionnel "Gin and Tonic" anglais!

Well, we all had a lovely week, and Papy and Mamie would certainly not disagree: look at them enjoying the typically British Gin & Tonic!
